Late this summer there will be an important professional development for you. I know it may seem a bit early for this, but please plan to register for this session, as it will train you on standards that will impact your teaching in 2009-2010.

What will we learn?

Educators across Texas will have the opportunity to participate in the state-sponsored training for the newly adopted English and Spanish Language Arts and Reading (ELAR/SLAR) Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). The training sessions will provide K-12 teachers with the knowledge necessary for implementing the 2009-2010 English Language Arts and Reading TEKS, the Spanish Language Arts and Reading TEKS, the English Language Proficiency Standards, and the College and Career Readiness Standards. You will have the opportunity to understand the format, actively participate in vertical alignment tasks, and see how activities can be developed that bridge the new TEKS both in English and Spanish.

After completing a ½ day introduction to the ELA/Reading TEKS (called Foundations), you will sign up for your specific session:
  • Session 1: Kindergarten through Second Grade (English)
  • Session 2: Third through Fifth Grades (English)
  • Session 3: Sixth through Twelfth Grades (English)
  • Session 4: Kindergarten through Second Grades (Bilingual)
  • Session 5: Third through Sixth Grades (Bilingual)

Who can come?

Teachers and administrators who want to learn more about the newly adopted English and Spanish Language Arts and Reading (ELAR/SLAR) Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills.

Additional information regarding training sessions will be available soon through Region One.
